Description

The latest collection of light sculptures, dubbed "Ambra Toba," melds ancient stone volumes with aluminum. At its core lies the Mexican "Toba volcánica" stone, comprising minerals, glass, and volcanic debris from eruptions dating back a million years. Embedded fragments on its geometric surfaces bear witness to these cataclysmic events and subsequent movements. The juxtaposition of porous textures against smooth, dark red tones underscores the studio's contemporary reinterpretation of traditional materials and craftsmanship. The connecting elements between the sculptural stone components and aluminum parts stem from meticulous research into fusing unique handmade forms with industrial components.David Pompa: a passion for handcraft and raw natural materials.

The new series of light sculptures named Ambra combines volumes of ancient stones and aluminium. Centerpiece is the Mexican “Toba volcánica” stone that consists of minerals, glass and volcanic debris ejected one million years ago during severe eruptions. Fragments in the geometrical surfaces are testament to these explosions and movement.

The contrast between porous textures and smooth dark red underlines the studios contemporary approach on traditional materials and craft. The connecting components between the sculptural stone elements and the aluminium parts originate from an intensive research of linking unique handmade shapes with industrial parts.
