Description
Aro Travertine is a sculptural table by Alexander Díaz Andersson, where the enduring strength of natural stone meets the subtle poetry of craftsmanship. Inspired by the circular form of a ring — "aro" in Spanish — this striking piece explores the tension between fullness and void, solidity and lightness.
Its round travertine top rests on a bold, open-centered base, carved to create a graphic and architectural silhouette. The organic veining of the stone contrasts with the geometric purity of the form, creating a dialogue between raw nature and refined design.
Originally from Sweden, the designer has decided to drop his suitcase in Mexico and is now the Founder and Design director of ATRA Studio. Alexander Díaz Andersson, through his experiments and collaborations, is now part of the global scene of mexican design.
The designer's core focus is working with sustainable materials, through robotic and manual processes, hand in hand with local artisans, to create a positive social impact in Mexico.

The new series of light sculptures named Ambra combines volumes of ancient stones and aluminium. Centerpiece is the Mexican “Toba volcánica” stone that consists of minerals, glass and volcanic debris ejected one million years ago during severe eruptions. Fragments in the geometrical surfaces are testament to these explosions and movement.

The contrast between porous textures and smooth dark red underlines the studios contemporary approach on traditional materials and craft. The connecting components between the sculptural stone elements and the aluminium parts originate from an intensive research of linking unique handmade shapes with industrial parts.
