Description

Evoking the grace of a corolla in full bloom, this hand-blown glass pendant combines elegant lines with fascinatingly rich ornamentation. The Calla lampshades are crafted using a contemporary reinterpretation of an ancestral technique, where hand-shaped glass details—here, delicate rounded fins whose hues ignite in the light—enhance the blown glass. Adorned with the nobility of hand-patinated brass and suspended from a brass rod incorporating an ingenious leveling system, these lights breathe an artistic and timeless breath into any space.

Founded in Brooklyn, In Common With is a contemporary design studio that celebrates collaboration, materials, and craftsmanship.

Nick Ozemba and Felicia Hung met in college on the first day of their freshman year at the Rhode Island School of Design. Since then, they launched the design house In Common With and have remained close to their New York City roots. The studio's mission is to create lighting and objects where functionality meets emotion. Their approach is resolutely human-centered: working "in common"—that is, in common—with artisans, glassmakers, and ceramicists, to create unique and timeless pieces.

The new series of light sculptures named Ambra combines volumes of ancient stones and aluminium. Centerpiece is the Mexican “Toba volcánica” stone that consists of minerals, glass and volcanic debris ejected one million years ago during severe eruptions. Fragments in the geometrical surfaces are testament to these explosions and movement.

The contrast between porous textures and smooth dark red underlines the studios contemporary approach on traditional materials and craft. The connecting components between the sculptural stone elements and the aluminium parts originate from an intensive research of linking unique handmade shapes with industrial parts.
