Description

The PET Lamp Gurunsi is a masterpiece of functionality and sustainability. Each lamp is equipped to meet modern needs, featuring electrical installations that support both 110V and 220V, and a foldable design that simplifies transportation and assembly

The PET Lamp collection is a vibrant and soulful project born from a collaboration between Madrid-based designer Álvaro Catalán de Ocón and artisans from the Colombian Amazon and beyond. This unique initiative transforms trash into treasure by creating one-of-a-kind lampshades from discarded plastic bottles. The bottles are cut into strips and intricately woven with dyed and undyed palm tree fibers by South American artisans.

The new series of light sculptures named Ambra combines volumes of ancient stones and aluminium. Centerpiece is the Mexican “Toba volcánica” stone that consists of minerals, glass and volcanic debris ejected one million years ago during severe eruptions. Fragments in the geometrical surfaces are testament to these explosions and movement.

The contrast between porous textures and smooth dark red underlines the studios contemporary approach on traditional materials and craft. The connecting components between the sculptural stone elements and the aluminium parts originate from an intensive research of linking unique handmade shapes with industrial parts.
