Description

It is said that the sphere is the most perfect shape in the universe — a symbol of absolute harmony, where infinity folds gracefully into itself. Within Spacey, an entire cosmos of mystery and nuance is revealed, captured in the heart of a gem-like material: lithyalin. Though it looks like a precious stone, it is, in fact, glass — born from an ancestral craft developed over 200 years ago in Northern Bohemia.

Lasvit is a Czech design and glassmaking company founded in 2007 by Leon Jakimič, a native of Liberec in Northern Bohemia—a region with a rich, centuries-old glassmaking tradition. Coming from a family with six generations of glassmakers, Jakimič studied economics at Loyola Marymount University in California and later earned an MBA in Hong Kong. His vision was clear: to merge the historical craftsmanship of Bohemian glass with bold, contemporary design.

The new series of light sculptures named Ambra combines volumes of ancient stones and aluminium. Centerpiece is the Mexican “Toba volcánica” stone that consists of minerals, glass and volcanic debris ejected one million years ago during severe eruptions. Fragments in the geometrical surfaces are testament to these explosions and movement.

The contrast between porous textures and smooth dark red underlines the studios contemporary approach on traditional materials and craft. The connecting components between the sculptural stone elements and the aluminium parts originate from an intensive research of linking unique handmade shapes with industrial parts.
